Global challenges related to urban planning and urbanization continue to be discussed within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13 being held in Baku. One of the forum’s key themes is sustainable development and the future planning of cities.
Speaking to Fortunamag.az, Member of Parliament Elchin Mirzabeyli said:
“The event has been organized at a very high level. One of the most important aspects is that, for the first time, a Leaders’ Summit was held here. This demonstrates that Azerbaijan’s approach is different. We view urban planning and urbanization not only through the lens of architecture, but as a much broader global process.
In fact, it is both a geopolitical and an economic issue. Wars, technological disasters, environmental changes, and climate-related processes occurring around the world are causing people to migrate from one region to another. In some cases, these processes even become instruments of geopolitical pressure.
At the same time, challenges related to energy security emerge, which in turn affect food security. All of these areas are interconnected in a chain of cause and effect.
From our perspective, solving these problems first requires political will at the global level, among world leaders. Only then can these interconnected processes be directed toward positive outcomes and lead to solutions for the challenges associated with urbanization.”
